educational Scholarships

APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR SCHOLARSHIPS IS OCTOBER 1st each year

Non-Professional adult and youth members may receive one (1) scholarship every two (2) years

Guidelines & Information:

The education of our adult and youth members is very important to NODA as riders, horse owners, and possible future trainers.    Beginning in 2025, NODA offers annually a total of four (4) scholarships in the amount of $400 each.  A non-professional adult or youth member may be awarded a scholarship once every two (2) years.   If you apply and are not awarded a scholarship, please re-apply the following year. 

Scholarship Use Scholarships may be used for any educational dressage event.   This includes all dressage clinics, seminars, symposiums, lessons, and other dressage education events.  Scholarship funds may not be applied to show fees, board bills, or leasing costs.  At the time of application, applicants are not required to have detailed and specific plans for the money. 
 
Application Deadline is October 1 of the Year PRIOR to the Scholarship Award.  For example, if you wish to receive money for an event taking place in the year 2025, you must submit your Application Packet to NODA by October 1, 2024  

Application Review
  A scholarship committee will review and evaluate all applications received by the October 1st deadline according to the 
Scholarship Evaluation Rubric.

Application Receipt & Award Notification NODA will acknowledge receipt of applications.  Scholarship Recipients announced at the annual November Year-End Awards Banquet.  All applicants will be notified by November 30th of the current year whether or not they will be awarded a NODA scholarship.    

Scholarship Funds
 Request  
When a scholarship recipient determines an education event for which to use his/her scholarship funds, he/she is required to submit a Check Request Form in order to receive scholarship money.  Funds will be reimbursed in the form of a check made payable directly to the recipient, the clinician or the host of the event.  Scholarship recipients may use their scholarships toward more than one educational dressage event.

 Applicant Qualifications & Submission Information for Educational Scholarships for Non-Professional Adult or Youth Members

1.  NODA Bucks: 

      Applicant MUST have earned a minimum of 10 NODA bucks during the year the application is submitted.   You can check how

      many Virtual NODA Bucks you have earned in the current year HERE.  
2.  Letter of Recommendation:  

      Applicant MUST submit at least one (1) Letter of Recommendation. You may submit up to four (4) letters.  The letter(s) 

      must be from a credible source who is familiar with you as an equestrian or has worked closely with you on volunteer projects

      or in the classroom (i.e. your trainer, teacher, volunteer supervisor, boss).

3.  Give Back Project:   

      Applicant MUST be willing to write a newsletter article OR submit a summary of how the scholarship money was used.  NODA

      may use this information in our newsletter or for other publicity reasons.  A minimum of one (1) photo must also be submitted          (i.e. Of you, you with your horse, just you at the event, etc.)

4.  NON-NODA Volunteer Hours (OPTIONAL)

      Applicant has the option to submit non-NODA Volunteer hours during the year the application is submitted .  These volunteer

      hours can strengthen your chances of receiving a scholarship. Submit this Non-NODA Volunteer Record Form, OR a letter

      from the Organization that you volunteered with stating your volunteer hours.

PROFESSIONAL GRANTS

The NODA Professional Grant fund is designed to help further the professional horse person’s education at seminars, USEF or USDF events, programs, or functions (excludes riding clinics).    

Beginning in 2025, NODA offers annually a total of four (4) grants in an amount of up to $500 each.  


 Professionals may receive one (1) Grant every two (2) years

** There is no annual deadline for these grants, and they can be submitted at any time during the year **

NODA Membership Requirement: Applicant must be a “professional” horse person as defined in the USEF rule book, AND he/she must be a member in good standing with NODA. 

Note: A NODA Amateur who is a USEF "professional" (i.e., licensed TD or Judge ) may apply for  this grant but only as applies to their official capacity
