Office/Numbers Table
Generally the Office Person is responsible assisting the Show Secretary during the event with the managing of the Show Office.  Basic office skills are needed as well as a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.  The office person distributes and collects numbers.  You are also the “hub” of most of the messages, assisting the Show Secretary, odd questions, laying out the awards, posting the scores and selling raffle tickets and pop.  This year, we’re looking for TWO (2)  people to work the office/numbers table during all the shows.  Ability to multi-task is probably the most important trait needed in this job.
Paddock Stewards
The Paddock Steward alerts riders when it is time to enter the arena and generally keeps order by the warm up area.  You are also responsible for checking bits and whip lengths for compliance with the rules.   Must be comfortable with horses as it will require checking a horse’s bit – while it’s in the horses’ mouth.  You’ll have a clipboard with a list of riders in the order they are riding and indicating the individual time for each ride.  You need a watch and you need to know the difference between the bits…that’s it!
This is a great way to meet people and their horses close up!

Runners
Runners spend most of their time walking (or running – hence the name!)  over to the judge’s stand to collect completed tests and bringing them back to the Tabulator to be tallied.   They also relay requests to or from the judge or maybe carry a message to the Paddock Steward.  This requires the least “skill” so to speak but requires the most physical activity; sometimes in inclement weather.

Scribes
Each Judge at a show has to have his/her own Scribe!  The Scribe is responsible for taking notes for the judge.  This is an extremely educational and rewarding position.  A good scribe is invaluable.  If you can write neatly and legibly, and you are familiar with the dressage tests being performed so you can keep up with the Judge's comments - then this is a job to volunteer for!
Prerequisites:

If volunteering at a show you are competing at, you cannot scribe until AFTER you’ve ridden.
You may
ONLY scribe up to the level you have ridden in the past.

Tabulators
Each judged dressage test needs the scores earned, to be tallied.  As you know from experience, once you’ve completed your ride, you want to know your score as soon as possible.  This is the job of the Tabulator.   Generally the Tabulator(s) will have an office away from the mainstream to carefully tally each test.  The need for perfection and the ability to focus is important in this position.  We look for people who are comfortable sitting in one spot, using a 10-key calculator and are detail-oriented.
