NODA SHOWS WEEKEND WRAP-UP

The crazy weather couldn’t stay away, in typical fashion,
for this weekend’s shows. Special thanks to this weekend’s
judges, Valerie Knight and Janine Malone. Thanks
to Lisa Gorretta for judge transportation and overall
technical assistance throughout the weekend.
Thank you to all
those who withstood the cold wind outside on Saturday,
especially our volunteers! At least it didn't rain on
Saturday. I admit that I have had an attack of 'pregnant
brain' and have lost track of the list of volunteers for
Saturday, so rather than miss a few people I will simply say
that everyone did a wonderful job!
The Sunday Championships seemed to go off without a hitch, and
everyone that showed went home with a ribbon! Special thanks to
Maggie Ball, Kathy Kirchner, Laura
Gentile, Jane Paisley, Anne McClintock, Kirsten Rall, Brenda
Trautman, Fran Cverna, Kim Shepherd, Bev VanNieuwal,
and Dee Liebenthal. Thanks to all the helping hands that
assisted randomly with ring set-ups, changes, carrying stuff,
and anything else that needed done. I cannot thank enough,
Dee Liebenthal, Lisa Gorretta, and Gail Patton who
cleaned up the outdoor ring in the pouring rain!!!!
Chagrin Valley Farms graciously hosted our weekend shows again
this year. Thanks to Paul from CVF for helping with set-up, ring
dragging, and for feeding during our breaks so as not to spook
any horses.
Thank you, Taya Workum-Byers, for taking
over the show secretary reins this year.

You
The Indoor and Outdoor Dressage Arenas at CVF were set up
and the weather cooperated with even some blue sky showing!
The rain held off until the arenas were completed! Special
thanks to our Friday set-up volunteers:

Mother
Nature and ODOT (Ohio Department of Transportation) tossed us a
doozy for this last qualifying schooling show before the October
Championship. I have to commend all of the competitors for
keeping calm and going with the flow today. Early morning
highway closures caused big headaches for more than a few of
us. Everyone remained flexible with ride times, and we were
able to adjust for those who arrived late.
After
an overcast morning, the sun came out with blue skies, which
suddenly filled with rain, and then thunder and lightning.
A hold on the show and then a decision that the outdoor rings
were not usable led to major schedule adjustments. Again,
flexibility and cool heads led to an outcome that allowed those
who were willing to stay to get at least one ride
scored. Everyone should give themselves a big pat on the back!
A
thousand thank you’s go out to everyone again today - from those
who fought road closures in the AM, to those who stuck with us
through the rescheduled afternoon thunderstorm, and everything
in between! Special thanks to our judges, Karen Winn and
Cheryl Connell-Marsh, who graciously adjusted their
schedules as well. Thanks to Krista Warnick for taking
over judging duties for the Leadline Class, along with fill-in
secretary duties for the afternoon.
As
always, our show could not have run without our wonderful
volunteers, most of whom got pretty wet at one point or
another: Laura Headley, Anne Demanelis, Kathy Davis-Kime,
Caroline Hahn, Crissteen Miller, Mosie Welch, Deb Smith, Kim
Kirk, Cindy Hagan, Iris Paterson, Sara Justice, Sue Schnittke,
Lauren Ciarrone, Amy Craig, Bev Van Nieuwal, Kim Apicella, Andrea
Avramovic, Brigette McGowan, Cindy Hagan, Gail Patton (I
hope you gave yourself NODA bucks!), and Mary Lou Gallagher
(who "just stopped by" at just the right--or wrong moment!).
Margaret McElhany and the entire Valley Riding Staff from Rocky
River Stable were amazing as always, directing traffic,
setting up and changing rings (more than once!), and much more.
Casual Creation Photography stuck it out as long as
possible and should have great pictures posted to their website
later this week.

Thanks to all that made the Rocky River show a success! Our
volunteers were amazing, and the competitors good natured and
accommodating, even under rather trying circumstances.
Special thanks from me to Mary Lou Gallagher and
Linda Cooley (webmaster). Mary Lou was kind enough to
help me sort out the scheduling snafus, and Linda
patiently made updates to the website, even though she was not
in good wireless territory to access the internet, and she was
on vacation!

What a day of weather we had for the popular and well
attended show! Morning rain (several downpours!)
cooler temperatures ~
early afternoon hot
and sunshine ~
mid-afternoon brought
a big storm with heavy rain, thunder and even some distant
lightening! There were very few scratches despite
the forecast and variable weather. We want to
thank EVERYONE (competitors, judges, volunteers, coaches,
grooms, supporters, vendors, etc.) who came out to compete, play
and work on this challenging weather day!
Special thanks to the wonderful show judges, Barb Soukup
and Earlen Haven, and our hard-working volunteers:
Patti Valencic, Janet Thompson, Susan Slotnick, Sally Pla,

smoothly -- especially those who stood in the hot sun all
afternoon! Special thanks to Robin and John Ambrose for once
again hosting us at their wonderful facility and getting
everything set up and ready to go.

SHOW RESULTS
SHOW SUMMARY AND THANK YOU
After weeks of rain, we finally got a break long enough to
complete the NODA Rocky River Schooling Show. Thank you to all
the competitors and volunteers who were cooperative and pleasant
with our parking volunteers throughout the day! Everyone looked
great with their shiny, braided horses glistening in the sun.
There was a great atmosphere at the show today with plenty of
positive energy and team spirit. I can't wait to see everyone
in Jefferson in July!
Special, special thanks to Margaret McElhany
and her bevy of Valley
Riding volunteers and staff who were essential to our smooth ad
successful show. I do not have all your names, but you should
all give yourselves a giant pat on the back!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!
I would like to thank all the participants in NODA's Rocky River
Schooling Show for their understanding and cooperation with our
parking situation. I hope we did not inconvenience anyone too
much.
I wish the footing could have been less sloppy, but mother
nature seems to be on the deluge mood this year.
Maybe by September's show, things will dry up.
